Splechter Sets 3,000-Meter Record on Day Two
Feb 05, 2022 | Track & Field
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Kansas State track and field team earned multiple first-place finishes and a new school record to conclude competition at the 46th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Saturday (February 5) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
"Honestly, I thought today was one of the better days our team has had in awhile," stated Director Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto. "Our middle distance and distance group ran well, our long sprinters ran well, as well as out sprinters. Shalysa had solid day. Vitoria ran better. Individually, there were some very fine performances. Particularly impressive to me was Hannah in the mile. Sean on 4x400 and 3,000-meter guys. Again, not to diminish our efforts, but those stood out to me. What was particularly good to see how well the group competed."
Highlighting the day was junior Hadley Splechter setting the men's 3,000-meter record, a record that was set in 1994. Splechter concluded the race in second place with a time of 8:05.51. Junior Cooper Schroeder came in third place with a personal-best time of 8:11.69 while junior Kerby Depenbusch was in eighth place (8:25.44).
