MANHATTAN, Kansas - K-State (3-9-3, 1-5-1 Big 12) returns to Buser Family Park for its final two home matches of the 2023 season, as the Wildcats host West Virginia (5-7-3, 3-3-1) on Thursday night at 7 p.m., and Iowa State (4-10-1, 1-6-0) on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
• Thursday's match is Senior Day, as the Wildcats will honor seven seniors: Aliyah El-Naggar, Keila Gillispie, Erin Morrissey, Porter List, Kiran Singh, Maddie Weichel and Alaina Werremeyer.
• Both matches will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, as Brian Smoller (play-by-play), Oscar Montenegro (analyst) and Hannah Whetstone (sideline) will have the call.
Last Time Out
• K-State held the top scoring team in the nation, seventh-ranked BYU, scoreless for 75 minutes on Monday night, but the Cougars managed two tallies in the final 15 minutes for a 2-0 win in Provo, Utah.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Murphy Sheaff made a career-high 12 saves. Her 12 saves were the most in a match this season by any goalkeeper in the Big 12. She tied for the second-most saves in a match in program history and were the most since Alaina Werremeyer set the school record with 13 against Baylor on October 10, 2021.
• Sheaff's seven first half saves were the most by a K-State goalkeeper in a Big 12 first half since Werremeyer tallied eight on October 10, 2021. Sheaff's seven saves tied her season-high of seven which she had achieved twice before Monday night.
• The Cougars outshot the Wildcats, 38-6, including a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal.
• The Wildcats are winless in their last six road matches (0-5-1).
Dibbini In Eighth Season at K-State
• K-State announced the formation of its women's soccer program on Oct. 12, 2014. With the task of building a program from the ground up, K-State announced on Dec. 26, 2014, that Mike Dibbini would be the first head coach in program history.
• Dibbini is in his eighth season with the Wildcats. He owns a 300-161-49 (.636) career mark, including a 35-83-18 (.324) mark at K-State.
• The 300th victory of his coaching career came against Houston on October 5, 2023.Â
• Prior to coming to K-State, Dibbini spent eight seasons at Kansas Wesleyan (NAIA) and two seasons at Cal Poly Pomona (NCAA D-II).
Shot Prevention is Goal Prevention
• K-State has prevented opponent shots on goal in the 2023 season.
• The Wildcats have limited its foes to 5.8 shots on goal per game and a shots on goal percentage of .347. The shots on goal percentage would be the lowest in a season allowed in program history, surpassing the previous best of .405 in 2017.
• In three of its 14 matches, K-State has allowed two shots on goal in each of those matches.
• K-State's 2022 version of the defensive backline was one of the best defensive units in the seven seasons of the program. The Wildcats allowed 5.5 shots on goal per game.
• The 5.5 shots on goal allowed per game in the 2022 season were 1.1 less than the previous record low of 6.6 shots on goal allowed per game in 2018.
• K-State's 1.26 goals against average last season was the second-lowest in program history.
Blank Sheaff
• Sophomore goalkeeper Murphy Sheaff has been strong in frame in her brief time as a Wildcat.
• At BYU on October 10, Sheaff recorded a career-high 12 saves. Her 12 saves were the most in a match this season by any goalkeeper in the Big 12. She tied for the second-most saves in a match in program history and were the most since Alaina Werremeyer set the school record with 13 against Baylor on October 10, 2021.Â
• Earlier this season, Sheaff carded a career-best streak and school record of 416:44 of shutout soccer. This surpassed her previous high of 325:28 last season at Jacksonville.
• She hauled in five saves at 18th-ranked Northwestern on August 20 to register the first of three straight shutouts.
• The product of Sunshine Coast, Australia, is the second goalkeeper in program history to card a shutout against a ranked opponent, joining Alaina Werremeyer's 2021 shutout of 23rd-ranked Baylor.
• Sheaff collected her first shutout in Big 12 play, hauling on four saves against Houston on October 5.
• She is second in school history for shutouts in a sophomore season (4).
• She has six matches with five or more saves, including two matches. Sheaff leads the Big 12 and ranks 34th in the nation for total saves (66) and is second in the league for saves per game (4.40).
• Sheaff owns nine shutouts in her collegiate career, notching five while a member of Jacksonville last season.
• A season ago, Sheaff led the nation in save percentage (.902) and finished second in the ASUN and 17th in the nation for goals against average (0.60).
Punching the Time Card
• Seniors Maddie Weichel and Aliyah El-Naggar and junior Kenzi Gillispie have been mainstays in the K-State lineup during their time in the Little Apple.
• Weichel is fifth in school history for career matches played with 66. She is sixth in school history for games started with 50.
• Gillispie is just ahead of Weichel for career starts with 52. Gillispie has started 52 consecutive matches since debuting against Weber State in the season-opener on Aug. 19, 2021. This is the longest current streak among the 2023 roster.
• El-Naggar is 10th in school history for career starts with 45.Â
• Gillispie (4,415; 4th), Weichel (4,113; 6th) and El-Naggar (3,843; 8th) rank among the top-10 in school history for career minutes played. Gillispie and Weichel are two of seven players in program history to have played over 4,000 minutes in their K-State careers.
• Gillispie owns the school record for minutes played in a season (1,666), establishing the mark in the 2022 season.
All That Jaz
• Centerback Jazmin Brown has put her name atop the 2023 K-State scoring ledger this season and registered her first Big 12 tally.
• Against Houston on October 5, Brown headed in a corner kick for her first career game-winning goal and her first goal in Big 12 play.
• In the season-opener at Green Bay, the Gilbert, Arizona, product, procured her first collegiate goal in the 19th minute on a corner service from Kiran Singh. Brown headed the pass in for her first goal.
• Brown notched her second goal in the 81st minute. The second tally was a mirror image of the first, with a service on a corner from Singh and Brown headed the orb into the net.
• Brown is the first K-State defender to score two or more goals in a match.
• Brown was the second K-State player to score two or more goals in a season-opener, joining Katie Cramer in 2019.
• This season, Brown has played 1346 of a possible 1350 minutes and owns a career-high 13 shots with nine on goal and leads the team in goals with three.
