FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Colleen Corbin

On overall performance today…
"I don't think we were good enough. I think they know we weren't good enough. And we talked about it before the game, everything is earned. We're not owed anything, wins and losses. And I felt like we earned a loss today. I think Baylor came out and competed harder than we did, and executed their game plan better than we did, and unfortunately for us, it's just part of our journey right now. It's not all gonna be sunshine and rainbows, but at the same time, this only needs to be uncomfortable for however long we allow it to be uncomfortable. We get to choose how we respond. We get to choose how we show up tomorrow. And so I just asked the kids to go back, and be honest and transparent with themselves, and when they watch the game back, take accountability for what needs to be better, and myself and the staff will do the same, and then we'll show up to work tomorrow and be ready to go for the next one. "

On what went wrong in the second half…
"It's a bummer, because we felt like we came out of the locker room pushing the tempo and generating offensive momentum, and it's just a missed pressing rotation that generated the first goal, and Baylor's good enough to punish you for those mistakes. And Olivia Hess is a player that we're very familiar with, and like I said, she's good enough to punish you. So it was just unfortunate for that to go the way it did. But obviously, in that scenario, you still have plenty of time to go and get another one, and then to draw two PKS at the end is such a bummer. One is a double defending moment. There's just too much pressure on the player, and then an unfortunate handball that, you can't really control those scenarios, but at the same time, if we're not doing enough to win the game, the soccer Gods will punish you. I just felt like that we earned everything that we got today, good and bad, so it's unfortunate, but like I said, it's part of our journey, and we just have to show up and decide how we respond tomorrow."

On how the offense can improve …
"I think we need to be more collective in what we're doing. I still feel like there's a lot of individuality, like when we get into those spaces and people are not necessarily thinking about how to play with the people around them. They're just thinking about, how do I score a goal and against good teams that are organized, it's not going to be one versus five. That's just never going to work, so we have to stop trying to generate our own luck and just be more disciplined in trying to play with our friends in the final third instead of taking it ourselves and hoping that that works."

On what the team will do to prepare for KU…
"I mean, you never know, this is the first time we've been in this position. So I challenge them that every single one matters. This one, the next one, the one after that, and obviously, KU, there's a different level of pride and intensity associated with that match. But at the same time, we have to just continue to show up and compete with every single group the same way. We don't ever want to go down two losses in a row, especially at home like that. That hurts. And the expectation here now with K-State soccer is we don't lose at home, and we don't lose two in a row. So to do both in the same weekend is tough, but we're still growing, we're still trying to build that identity and to build that culture. So we'll learn from it and we'll move on, and the only choice is to show up tomorrow and get better and compete and be ready to beat Kansas on Thursday."
