
Moore Jr., Mercera Break Their Own School Records at Tyson Invitational

The men's weight throw and women's 400 meters school records have been broken twice this season
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Seniors Gary Moore Jr. and Vanessa Mercera both surpassed their own school records on Friday (February 13) on day one of the Tyson Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Moore Jr., finishing runner-up in the men's weight throw, threw a new personal best by over a foot at 23.54m (77' 2.75"), still the no. 5 best throw in the NCAA. In the women's 400 meters, Mercera ran 52.83 seconds, two-tenths of a second faster than her previous time.
Day one also featured World Athletics sanctioned Silver events with two field events, the men's and women's long jump, where three Wildcats competed. In the women's event, junior Maud Zeffou-Poaty finished 8th behind Olympic talent at 6.40m (21' 0").
Competing in the men's event, sophomore Uroy Ryan jumped 7.63m (25' 0.5"), while freshman Croix DaCunha also recorded a distance of 7.35m (24' 1.5").
With a 20 second personal best, junior Vienna Lahner finished 4th in the women's 3,000 meters championship race at 9:17.52, jumping up to no. 2 in the K-State school records, behind school record holder Amy Mortimer at 9:09.99 from 2002.
In the men's 400 meters, junior Nen Matlock clocked the fastest time for the Cats at 46.55 seconds in 13th place, out of 75 runners, just shy of his fastest indoor time (46.49) from last season. Two more Wildcats ran impressive 400-meter times, to enter the K-State indoor top-10, freshman Delaney Brinker in 53.50 seconds is now no. 8 and senior Bongumusa Nkosi in 46.85 seconds comes in at no. 10.
In the women's 800 meters, freshman Anna Pozdeeva ran 2:08.81 for 11th place, the no. 10 time in the all-time top-10.
Junior Aaliyah Foster had her best long jump of the season in 4th place at 6.33m (20' 9.25"), now the no. 8 best distance in the school indoor records.
In the men's 60-meter dash prelims, juniors Tah Chikomba and Trevon Hamer tied for 9th in 6.73 seconds, just shy of qualifying for the final race, out of 47 runners.
Day two of the Tyson Invitational wraps up on Saturday (February 14) starting at 10:30 a.m., with the women's pole vault and on the track at 11 a.m., with the men's 5,000 meters. The meet can be streamed on SEC Network+ starting at 2 p.m., CT.
